Site now cleared, awaiting redevelopment.
The 1895 OS mapping marks the site as a 'Stone Saw Mills', presumably associated with the older sandstone quarries to the north and east. The buildings were disused in 1906 when they were taken over by Israel Newton & Sons, boilermakers. Renamed as Summerley Boiler Works, boilermaking continued at the site until 2011 when the company was acquired and operations moved to the Milton Works in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
By the time the Summerley Works closed, Israel Newton & Sons were one of the very few remaining traditional boilermakers in the UK, specialising in heritage boilerwork using rivetted hot-pressed steel plates. The works were visited in c2004 by the late Fred Dibnah MBE as part of the 'Made in Britain' series. The relevant segment, from 20:40 onwards, was available on:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MgAUCbkZjA&ab_channel=Haddy75 .
The works stood derelict in 2015 and have now been demolished with the site cleared by 2016.
