Calverley Canal Bridge

Description and History of Site:-
A single-span reinforced concrete bridge built in 1929 to carry the new link road between Calverley and Horsforth over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

An early example of portal frame design it has a total length of 135 ft. (41.15m) with a 65 ft. 6 in. (19.96m) span. It carries a 30 ft. (9.14m) carriageway and two 12 ft. (3.66m) footpaths.

Designed by Mr. H. R. Hepworth, West Riding County Surveyor in association with Messrs. L. G. Mouchel and Partners Ltd, and the bridge was constructed by Messrs. Fred Whitaker & Co. Ltd at a cost of £9,365 excluding the road and approach works.
