Description and History of Site:-
Designed by F. Marsden, City Engineer of Bradford, in collaboration with H. R. Hepworth, County Surveyor of the West Riding, the bridge was built in 1932 by Messrs. Lotz and Kier. The West Riding approach was constructed by R. Naylor and Sons, while the Bradford approach was completed by the Bradford Corporation using direct labour.
Replacing a narrow two-span stone bridge, it formed part of a major road-widening programme within the County Borough of Bradford and now carries the A658 Bradford–Harrogate road. The structure is a fine example of reinforced concrete engineering, comprising five spans from 26 ft. (7.92m) to 32 ft. (9.75m), with an overall length of 156 ft. (47.55m). It provides a 40 ft. (12.91m) carriageway and two 10 ft. (3.05m) footways. The bridge cost about £18,600 to build.
