Description and History of Site:-
Built as a cotton spinning mill in 1797. In 1811 the three storey mill measured 74 feet by 29 feet inside the walls and had a 'most powerful' water wheel. The machinery included 14 water twist frames with 48 spindles each, which must have been old and a throstle with 148 spindles. There was also a house for a manager or owner and 12cottages. The mill may have been changed over to spin worsted by 1838 with steam power added. The mill had various uses in later years and operated on the 'room and power' principle with small firms taking sections. In 1911 the Meridian Lighting Company had one section and then a section was taken by the Gofar Tyre and Rubber Company. The building is now flats.
Built by Betty Hudson from Keighley and run by her grandson James Parker. He was bankrupt by 1811 and the mill was for sale. Textile use continued probably until the 1850s then the mill had many owners and tenants, including a firm making small caravans in the 1930s.
