Bishopton Mill

Description and History of Site:-
The mill was built in 1793 and in 1797 the three storey mill was insured for £2,800 including the mill work, machinery and stock. The mill was changed from spinning cotton to spinning flax some time after 1810.
The water supply was taken from the river Skell just outside Ripon, but later a dam was constructed on the Laver about half a mile upstream.
The first occupants were probably the firm of Coates, Batty, Martin & Pearson, with Samuel Coates as the leading partner.
Currently (2017) a veterinary practice occupies the site.
