Description and History of Site:-
Roman road, fully described in Scarborough & District Archaeological Society Pickering Moor Research Report No. 4
Taylor (1979): 'The Roman road across the North York Moors from Malton to Whitby is known by this name. On Wheeldale Moor (SE 805975) a three-quarter mile length has been exposed and cleared by the Department of the Environment as a national monument. The road is surfaced with large stones, and traces of small culverts, put in by the engineers for drainage, are still visible.'
