The Ship public house

Description and History of Site:-
Public house built on a plot of land adjoining the former Croydon Canal (qv) and reputedly named in recognition of this, although the first local directory to list it is that for 1853. The canal had closed in 1836. An archway and long narrow yard has been identified as a relic of a former access from Thomas Pascall's brickfield (qv) to a canalside wharf.
The pub closed in September 2014 and interior redevelopment took place without planning permission.

Planning application 15/03553/P (conversion to housing) was allowed on appeal on 20 February 2017
