Post boxes with this Royal cipher are rare, as Edward VIII reigned for less than a year from 20 January 1936 to 11 December 1936. After his abdication some post boxes bearing his cipher were modified or replaced. 161 were pillar boxes were made with the 'EVIIIR' cipher, but it is estimated that only about 130 still survive.
