Romford Union Workhouse was built in 1838 by Francis Edwards (VCH Essex).
Parts of buildings near the old gasworks site survive including Hospital Treasury (TQ 50926 87967) and Doctors and Nurses Blocks (TQ 50893 87951), both locally listed.
