Description and History of Site:-
1858. Opened c.1850, present hall opened 1858 and reopened following fire 1878. Small unchanged music hall with simple U-shaped gallery. See E. L. Papers, Vol. lS
According to information supplied on Open House Day 18/9/99, Wilton's is the world's oldest surviving music hall. It was built by John Wilton behind his public house, 'The Mahogany Bar', in Graces Alley. It became a Mission in 1885 and by 1964 it was a rag warehouse. Broomhill Opera were granted a long lease to operate and run the venue in November 1998. - Chris Grabham
