Description and History of Site:-
Beckenham Cemetery contains the grave of Thomas Crapper, famous for his invention of the siphonic flush water closet. In 1902 Crapper moved to Thornsett Road, Anerley, and lived there until his death in 1910. Dr. W.G. Grace, the famous cricketer, is also buried in the cemetery and his grave depicts stumps and balls.
The cemetery contains graves including:
- Frederick Wolseley (1837-1899), maker of first English motor car and inventor of the sheep shearing machine;
- Thomas Crapper (1836-1910), the famous plumber who equipped Sandringham;
- William Ford Robinson Stanley (1829-1909), inventor, engineer, philanthropist of South Norwood
