Description and History of Site:-
This is the third station building on this site.

The first opened in 1854 for the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway and was rebuilt in 1889.

A new eight-platform station was opened in 1908.

Further reconstruction occurred in the late 1950s.

The Booking Hall was listed as Grade II in 1995, one of 21 post WW2 buildings to be listed. It was designed by H.H. Powell of the Eastern Region with John Ward as Project Architect and opened in 1961.

Ian Nairn in 'Nairn's London', called it 'one of the noblest new buildings in London'.
