Description and History of Site:-
Engineer, John Rennie, 1805. Major surviving item is 'skin floor'. Hermitage Pumping Station SW of site. Site surrounded by original dock wall, largely intact. Much of the original area is now covered with housing. To north of site in Pennington St lean-to sheds survive, c. 1811-13. London Dock House, 1840s, at main entrance. Redevelopment completed late 1980s but something of a commercial failure! The warehouses of Telford's Yard on the north side of Pennington Street have been converted to flats but maintain their 'drop boards' as balconies, the hydraulic wall cranes as ornaments and the identity letters on the end wall in Virginia Street.
