Description and History of Site:-
Locomotive shed built 1847 for goods locomotives: Designed by architect Robert Dockray (1811-71) and Robert Stephenson. Diameter 160 ft. Exterior of yellow brick with high slate conical roof. Interior has cast and wrought-iron and timber roof on cast-iron arcade of 24 columns.
Leased 1869 as bonded warehouse to Gilbey's gin; opened as theatre, 1968. Built for the London and Birmingham Railway & only in use for about 10 years. It was the growth in size of the locomotives that made the shed redundant.
