Description and History of Site:-
Originally a warehouse and oast house before conversion into a residence. Typical of a late 18th- or early 19th-century industrial building, but on conversion to residential in 1909 its east end had to be rebuilt to accommodate road widening.

The architects appointed were Dunbar Smith & Cecil Brewer, designers in the Arts and Crafts tradition. An early example of a conversion of an industrial building carried out by one of the more important architectural firms of the Edwardian period.

Contemporary details remain inside, including numerous glazed tiles and an early electric chandelier over the staircase.

In 1924 it became Malting House School.

Acquired in 2003 by Darwin College for graduate members' accommodation. The original oast house is used as a seminar/common room.
