Plaque reads:
This smock mill was built in 1847 and purchased in 1850 by William French.
Steam powered the mill from 1868. The adjacent roller mill was added in 1896 and a diesel engine replaced steam in 1932.
The sails were removed in 1912.
Four generations of the French family ran the flour milling business until closure in 1956. The windmill was converted to offices in 1986.
