Black Pit Aqueduct

Description and History of Site:-
Aqueduct carrying the Rochdale canal over the River Calder. Four segmental arches with keystones in dressed stone. Dated keystone. Built 1797, engineers W. Jessop and W. Crossley. The largest structure on the Rochdale canal, the four low arches of 25 foot (8m) span. The contemporary lock at the eastern end listed separately (Grade II 1230196).
