Description and History of Site:-
Railway Viaduct, of twenty semi-circular arches on rather tall piers, carrying Leeds to Thirsk Railway over River Wharfe. Punched sandstone blocks. Also known as Castley Viaduct. Constructed between 1845 and 1849; Engineer, Thomas Grainger. The foundation stone was laid by H.C. Marshall, chairman of the Leeds and Thirsk Railway Company on March 30th 1846.
