Legrams Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Imposing 4½ storey spinning mill with 26 bay elevation to Legrams Lane. Italianate detail relating to the Lockwood and Mawson partnership's work at Saltaire for Titus Salt. Sandstone "brick" with ashlar dressings. Stone slate roof (From the Listing Description). Spinning Mill, built between 1873 and 1903 for George Hodgson, perhaps better known as a loom manufacturer. It was originally conceived and designed in 1873 as an 'integrated' mill, with facilities for combing, spinning, weaving, and warehouses, but due to changing economic circumstances its eventual construction, completed in 1903, was only as a spinning mill. Architects Lockwood and Mawson. The mill became known later as Laycocks Mill and is listed by Historic England under that name.
