Shibden Head Maltings

Description and History of Site:-
A small housing development completely occupies the site. Purpose-built, 120 quarter malting premises erected for the Shibden Head Brewery (qv), owned by the Stocks family. It was one of a number of substantial maltings designed by Brighouse architect, Thomas W. Helliwell, and was erected in 1878. It is not clear if it ceased to be used for malting purposes after the 1932 takeover of the Shibden Head Brewery by Samuel Webster and Sons Ltd., but the latter concern ceased making their own malt during the 1960s. The building survived until at least the late 1970s and has since been demolished for housing development.
