Armley Mills

Description and History of Site:-
16th-c water-powered fulling mill, later also a corn mill. Rebuilt 1788 as a three-storey fulling mill, and was then a public mill (including scribbling and carding) until fire destroyed it in 1805. Benjamin Gott rebuilt it as a fireproof woollen factory in 1805-7, the first such known. Much added to afterwards, including gas plant. Main range listed II*, a further six structures on the site separately listed grade II.
