Union Forge

Description and History of Site:-
John Holding & Co (1955) Ltd possibly the last Sheffield forge using steam to power hammers. Holdings closed in 1995. Next door are remaining buildings of Hobson Houghton Don Steel Works. Francis Hobson here by 1850 or earlier on site of former fulling mill grinding wheel and corn mill. Was Rotabroach Ltd in 1995. Good view in 1995 from Effingham Street (SK 363 881) across Walk Mill Weir on Don gables lettered HH head and tail goit arches. All demolished by 2014.
