Foster Beck Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Huge wheel filling whole end of wall which is rendered against water penetration of stonework. Mill has 12 bays of vertical rectangular windows of 16 panes of the first floor and 20 on ground floor in both cases the top half pivots open. The end three bays are an addition. Nice stone hammer finished Monolithic stone lintels. Rear elevation repeats front. Blocked window in wheel end wall so wheel presumably not always so large. (Hatcher 1975). It was worked as a spinning mill at least by 1864 by Joseph Shann but the business was bankrupted in 1909 but bought by other operators. The current wheel and header tank were installed in 1904. It was closed for good in 1966 and later became the Water Mill Inn, but is now residential housing.
