Stainforth Packhorse Bridge

Description and History of Site:-
A single-arched bridge with stone parapets, only 2.1m wide between the parapets, now restricted to light vehicles on the road between Little Stainforth and Stainforth. It was built to replace an earlier and often-impassable ford across the Ribble on a road that had existed since monastic times. It was built at the expense of Samuel Watson of Knight Stainforth Hall and it remained in the ownership of whoever owned the hall until the then incumbents gifted it to the National Trust in 1931.
