Wath Mill

Description and History of Site:-
A small corn mill converted to flax spinning in 1816, a bobbin mill in 1840, back to oats, barley and wheat milling in 1859. The building is two storeys high and five bays long, built in the 19th century on the site of earlier corn mills whose history dates back to the medieval era. There is a large millpond just upstream of the mill, fed from Dauber Gill Beck. It has a steeply pitched grey slated roof with a ridge top cupola and a bellcote with bell on the gable end. Much of the machinery within the Mill is intact. On one of the cast iron girders, to the south-facing elevation, is stamped Mill rebuilt 1880. The millwrights are also noted on this gable with a plaque inscribed Crossleys of Cleckheaton.First recorded as a corn mill in 1527. It burnt down in 1878. In 1880 it was rebuilt and closed down as a commercial mill in the 1930s but has been preserved and recently restored see Nidderdale Chase Heritage Group History of Wath Mill 2017
