Richmond Station Gas House

Description and History of Site:-
Sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, Welsh slate roof. Single storey, 3 bays. Ventilator in roof. Built c1846 by architect G T Andrews for George Hudson's Great North of England. The gas house served the Richmond Station complex only, to provide lighting until the 1940's when electric lighting was finally installed.
