Braithwaite or Burton Smelt Mill

Description and History of Site:-
A mill may have existed on this site as early as 1657. There is a record of the mill having been set on fire in 1747 and of it being rebuilt in 1847. Probably operated until about 1870

It is not far from the Wasset Fell group of mines. The chimney and flue have been stabilised and a section of wall remains as part of the field wall. Other footings can be seen.
