Description and History of Site:-
Most interesting mill in idyllic setting in steep gorge, much wooded. Water supply taken off steep waterfall, fed by wooden pentrough, with chute under bridge, to overshot wheel (in situ), metal, marked "I Hodgson maker 1858" and "F Mattison & Co Ltd Bedale". (Hatcher, 1974). Shown on the OS map of 1853, but almost certainly earlier. Was derelict at time of Hatcher's visit in 1974. Currently (2017) building has been restored and in use for making candles.
