Hold Cauldron Mill

Description and History of Site:-

Mill on this site dates back to before 1704. Apparently last worked 1920.The present building was rebuilt by Matthew Foord in 1734 after the original mill was destroyed by fire. A stone lined mill race was reputedly unused for the life of the mill, though this was replaced by a new leat which supplied water to the mill by an aqueduct. A curious inscription on the frontage records its builder and latitude: "M FOORD LAT 54.19, 1734".
