Bransdale Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Bransdale Mill. Water corn mill on Hodge Beck. 18th century, rebuilt in 1842 by William Strickland. Corn was ground until 1917; grist was ground until 1953. Restored by The National Trust. Not open to the public but a public footpath runs through the hamlet. In 1970 Hatcher described the mill as:- 2 Storeys and loft. Stone and pantile. 2 semi-circular-headed openings, the left one to the wheel chamber, the right one to the mill and kitchen of house. 3 pairs of stone machinery apparently intact. More machinery in extension to left plus some outside at the back. Mill race at rear. Inscription in Hebrew, Greek and Latin.
