Duck Bridge

Description and History of Site:-
Duck Bridge. Masonry bridge over River Esk. Largely rebuilt 1717 by George Duck of Danby. Previously known as Danby Castle Bridge and thought to be as early as 1386. On the north parapet are the well-worn coat of arms of the Neville's, one time Lords of the Manor of Danby. A steeply hump-backed with large single round arch over R Esk. Span 12.8m width between parapets 2m. Alongside is a ford which is dry for normal river flows, as the water is directed through pipes in the concrete bed of the ford.
