Description and History of Site:-
Small single-storeyed. Gothic. Part of an important collection of railway buildings. By architect G.T Andrews for the Great North of England Railway which became the York & Newcastle Railway before the line was completed. Opened 10th September 1846. The station closed in 1969. Currently (2017) a garden centre and community enterprise with restaurant/bar, artisan food-sellers, cinema, gallery and heritage centre.
