Description and History of Site:-
To the north west a complete square chimney with a semicircular arched entry from the flue. From this point, the flue runs approximately east for about 75m before turning south-east for about 30m. Here two flues are combined, the more easterly proceeding more or less directly to Cobscar smelting mill while the other runs for a considerable distance to the south-east where it eventually reached Keldheads smelt mill.
Hatcher, 1974 noted: Flues curve, not straight. Could barn at SE 066 917 be fuel store? The origins of the smelt mill itself date to c1762, but the flue system and chimney are later c1848.
