Kirkbrymoorside Gas Works / The Kirk Forge

Description and History of Site:-
Superb cast iron frontages on either side of entrance. Gas Works Foundry cast into it. This was the entrance to the first Kirkbymoorside gasworks. Production of gas was started in Kirkbymoorside in 1863 by Christopher Carter at his foundry in Piercy End, before later manager Ben Blackburn relocated production of gas to Kirkby Mills in 1912.
