Stamp End Railway Bridge

Description and History of Site:-
Four span rail-bridge over the River Witham, constructed in 1848 for the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway. The design is attributed to John Fowler, Chief Engineer to the company, using the box girder concept promoted by William Fairbairn. Note Bryom 2017 does not include Stamp End in his list of Fairbairn designed bridges.
The main spans are 66ft 6in (20.27m) supported on ashlar piers.

Reconstructed in 1903 for the Great Central Railway.
