Farringdon Underground Station

Description and History of Site:-
Wrought-iron bowstring truss roofs 1866, and white glazed terracotta entrance building, 1914, by Charles Clark. Currently served by Thameslink services on the western pair of tracks (Widened Lines) and London Underground services on the eastern side. First station opened 10 January 1863 as Farringdon Street - the City terminus of the Metropolitan Railway; closed 1 March 1866 on the extension of the line and opening of the second Farringdon Street Station the same day; renamed Farringdon and High Holborn Station on 26 January 1922; renamed Farringdon Station 21 April 1936.
