Welton High Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Shown as Welton Mill on the OS maps of 1855 to 1955. Extraordinarily tall slender mill. It is not at first obvious that the top two floors have been added although the window openings on the two top floors have louvres not glass. The top windows at the front are half louvred half glass. The lower floors have side sliding sash windows. All windows are squarish under flat arch lintels. The windows are in the gable end walls. Lean-to extensions along the sides. Late C18 / early C19. The machinery, including a timber breastshot water wheel of 35 ft (10.7m) diameter, is said to survive complete.

Buildings appear to be disused in 2022. To the north is a large mill pond and watercourse.
