Heugh Lighthouse

Description and History of Site:-

Heugh Lighthouse. On the Headland at Hartlepool adjacent to the Heugh Gun Battery Museum. Built in steel and has the date '1926' above the door. It replaced an earlier lighthouse which was demolished in the First World War because it had obstructed the guns when the battery was returning fire against the trio of German battle cruisers which on 19 December 1914 bombard the town.
