Kilnsey Corn Drying Kiln - Skipton

One of several joists reused as wallheads at Conistone, Upper Wharfedale. They may have come from the Kilnsey drying kiln. Such joists supported narrow vertically set pieces of slate on which horsehair matting was laid - the corn was spread on the matting and dried by warm air rising from below.
