Description and History

This is the oldest of London's bridges over the Thames. It was built between 1774-1777 to the designs of Kenton Couse and James Paine. The 5 arched bridge was built in Portland stone. It was widened from 24' to 36' on the upstream side by the Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Co. between 1937 and 1939.
