Description and History

Proposed as early as a part of a new route between Bath and Portsmouth but not started until 1931 because of the Great war and subsequent Depression. The engineer was Alfred Dryland and the architect Maxwell Ayrton who worked with Considere Construction Ltd. The reinforced concrete bridge is 70' wide. there are 3 river spans of 98', 103' and 98' with 56' roadway arches on either side, making a total of 1,235'.
