Description and History

Tunnel under river constructed around turn of century for Hampton to Barn Elms 42 in. diameter water main. Identical turret on opposite side of river. Ring's Observatory, Old Deer Park 173762. Although royal connection ceased 1842, continued in use as observatory and scientific establishment under British Association (until 1871); Royal Society (until 1910) and Meteorological Office (until 1980). Building restored for use as offices, but small museum also intended.
