Description and History of Site:-
Information in town's Heritage Centre:

'The cloth industry in South Suffolk ran into major difficulties in the 1520s; in Sudbury the industry adapted and survived by moving into the production of other lighter material for which there was still a demand - says, bays, crapes and bunting (which was bought by the Royal Navy for flags). No78 began life as the open hall of a 15th-century cloth merchant's house. In 1695 the house and adjoining properties were acquired by Abraham Griggs, a saymaker who had married into the Gainsborough family.'
