Description and History of Site:-
Site of the ironworks operated by William Tuxford and his sons from circa 1826 to 1880. Tuxford's were an early builders of both portable steam and traction engines which were exported worldwide. See Clark (1998) for more details. Some buildings remained in the 1960 but the site has now been fully redeveloped as residential housing.
In circa 1880 the machinery, cap and sails of their tower windmill were removed to Heckington Mill where they can still be seen.
