Description and History of Site:-
The Four Per Cent Industrial Dwellings Company was founded by the 1st Lord Rothschild to provide 'the industrial classes with commodious and healthy dwellings at a minimum rent'. It was primarily aimed at serving the Jewish population in East London, who suffered from poor overcrowded accommodation. Wealthy Jewish investors were guaranteed a 4% return on their money, hence the name.

This arch is all that remains of the Rothschild Buildings - the inscription reads: 'Erected by the Four Per Cent Industrial Dwellings Company Ltd, 1886'.

The Wentworth Street Arch was one of two that marked the entrances to Rothschild Buildings which were demolished in the 1970s.
