Description and History of Site:-
Opera House described by John East in an article in London Archaeologist in 1972 as threatened with demolition. The building was opened in November 1890 designed by Frank Matcham, on the site of the earlier Lyric Hall (opened 17 November 1888) and, before that, a community hall built c. 1839. Now 'converted' with modern theatre space.
