Description and History of Site:-
Large concert hall designed by Sir Robert Matthew and J.L. Martin 1949-51, opened as the only permanent building for the Festival of Britain on the South Bank site in 1951. The chief engineer was Joseph Rawlinson. Additions 1962-65 designed by Sir Hubert Bennett.
