Description and History of Site:-
Canalside gasworks by Imperial GLCC, 1823, became part of the GLCC, 1876. Production ceased 1934, with carburetted water-gas plant on standby until 1953. Four gas holders: earliest has cast-iron frame with circular verticals and unusually ornate horizontals. One column-guided and two spiral-guided holders.
Sturt (1980): 'Oldest of four holders has attractive multi-column guide frame wholly of cast iron; probably 1860s; Imperial Gas Light & Coke Co.'
