Crystal Palace Low Level Station

Description and History of Site:-
Opened 1854 by the West End of London & Crystal Palace Railway to serve the 2 million annual visitors to the re-located 'Crystal Palace'.

Impressive interior, large booking hall which latterly contained chapel, also first-floor restaurant. Train shed's large roof removed 1905 after collapse of similar roof at Charing Cross. Over the road is a single storey coal office building, now cab office. The platforms for the Norwood Junction and Beckenham Junction lines are located outside the former train shed.
Station building dates from 1875 although the original station dated from 1854. Crystal Palace LBSCR Station opened 10 June 1854, renamed Crystal Palace Low Level 1 November 1898 and renamed Crystal Palace 13 June 1955.

The main station entrance was closed to public 1980s and a new entrance erected next to it. At this time, trains using the platforms in the former train shed were very infrequent and the building very run down. Restoration of the original station building was completed 2002. The original station entrance was reopened in 2012 in conjunction with the now frequent London Overground Service via Sydenham.
