Lower Brear Brewery

Caption :- James Alderson and James Shepherd operated the Lower Brear brewery in partnership between 1866 and 1876; thereafter Alderson continued alone. Substantial alterations were carried out during 1882 including the erection of new stables, the raising of the brewhouse roof and the provision of louvred ventilation. A number of tied houses were acquired during the years 1874 to 1897 before the premises again became too small. The lease was given up and brewing was transferred to a new purpose built brewery at Windmill Hill, Northowram The premises have had many uses over the years including car showroom, kitchen centre and bridal wear shop. The brewery tower is no longer in existence but ancillary buildings remain. Photo. February 1977.
